Well, doesn't it mean that something else has gone wrong before?

Very likely - but with the given error report I can only guess and this experiment may produce errors that give us a better hint.

Another possible source of trouble are libs and levels of old installations in your resource path. Press F2 at the main menu and check the paths for artefacts.
