I Olav,
I'm a french guy, so I'm using lots of accentued letters, and I always
got the square boxes instead.
I have tested gpg in a terminal (ubuntu 12.10 using utf-8 as default
charset) and it works fine.
Then I tryed to decrypt a mail encrypted with enigmail (exporting as eml
file).
gpg complains:

gpg: CRC d←form←
gpg: caract│re cit←-imprimable (quoted-printable) dans l'armure provenant
certainement d'un agent de transfert de messages bogu←

(malformed CRC, qp character in the armor, hopefuly from a buggy mail
transfert agent)

Hope this help!
