I'll write this directly to you since you, 'the mac user', answers so
many Linux users questions.  :-)


It has been my Linux experience (Fedora and Mageia) that using
*anything* but the distribution provided Thunderbird and Enigmail is an
effort in futility. The Linux  'change things' and require 'extra
things' that are way beyond normal users.

And it is not a fault of Enigmail or Thunderbird. Fireox, other than the
distribution provided one.

These 'alpha and beta' programs are considered 3rd party and not supported.
