Normal users shouldn't be using betas.

Meanwhile, I haven't had any problems on Ubuntu running the thunderbird and enigmail from the mozilla web sites. OTOH, Ubuntu takes a "kitchen sink" approach and adds a lot of stuff. Other distros include less things by default, so a user who wants to go "off the reservation" would need to know how to resolve those dependencies.
