Well, you need to take care of your local messages, too, don't you? Why not also backup your key, set the passphrase cache to 24h and write the passphrase on a piece of paper stored at a place that's as safe as your backups. Don't get me wrong: I still think it's a good idea to write such an Add-On or enhance Enigmail - it's bug #1: http://sourceforge.net/p/enigmail/bugs/1/ Decrypting messages would also allow them to be indexed and searched - an important functionality for many users.
