The update overwrote my preferences again and activated the "convenient encryption settings" without a warning. Furthermore my preferences were 1. enrypt if I have a public key for the recipient (or a rule) and 2. don't encrypt if 1 isn't true without the "Enigmail Key Selection" window. I did this by deactivating "Key Selection: Manually if Keys are Missing". Is this still possible? At least it doesn't work the same way as with version 1.7.
