This means that gpg-agent launched pinentry, but pinentry terminated (or diead) without returning any useful output. Happens if you run the following command from a terminal: /usr/local/gnupg-2.1/bin/\ pinentry-mac.app/Contents/MacOS/pinentry-mac <<EOT setdesc Please type a password getpin EOT -Patrick
