78.2.0, and enabled the prefs, and TB error console says gpgme is loaded.
Then I uninstalled Thunderbird 32bit, and installed Thunderbird 64bit.
The error console no longer mentions loading gpgme.
Thunderbird 64bit would require a 64bit gpgme.dll
This was it. I was trying with the 64-bit Thunderbird all the time.
Thunderbird 78.2.0 32-bit now works with gpgme here too. And no crashes
so far.
I'm wondering whether there will be a gpg/gpgme 64-bit binary for
Windows offered for download from gnupg.org at some point.
Packages for Linux distributions certainly are available as 64-bit versions.
