I disagree on this.

Having dev branches build allows the developer to have it build on
systems where she might have no access to. Like macOS right now on
Travis an most likely a windows build later on.

Given how often the macOS build got broken before I take this as an
actual advantage to have your dev branch build on it before you consider
merging it into master.
