For debian, this will break package building, because the layout is expected to be sth. like $SRCPKG-$VERSION/debian/... It would also be very inconvenient first having to move files around when building could work out of the box (which does work at the moment as i'm using a small script to automagically build efl/e17 .debs for my private use).
