My thoughts take them constructively :-) Overall the pages look nice - good job. I have some small points of feedback:
1) http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=contribute&l=en "See our Ecoding and Guidelines articles for more information." a) I've been cleaning up the web site a bit. May I suggest a single reference on your page to my idea of a Developer one-stop-shop webpage http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki/DevDocs 2) http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=about&l=en a) What is the difference between a "window manager" and a "desktop shell". We call it both and then make a distinction, but we don't explain it. IMHO adds confusion. "Gnome desktop", "Gnome shell". Gnome, KDE, Enlightenment... we should explain. b) "Please contact us for more information if you have problems with support in your platform. Professional services support is available if needed for your project. See our support page for more information." I suggest "For more information or to contact us please see our support page" The support page contains links to the contact/email page. You should direct people to all the options first and then let them choose email if they want to. Having two links that form a bit of a cycle (support -> contact) is confusing. c) Devices "Enlightenment and EFL use desktop Linux systems as a primary method of development because it is fast and simple to do so, but all of it is written with the express goal in mind of also working " Don't justify (make excuses for ) your choices.... suggest you change it to: "Enlightenment and EFL are primarily developed (on/for ??) desktop linux but their high performance, low resource design makes them ideal for embedded hardware including Mobile Phones, Televisions Netbooks and more" d) I think the Devices section should be closer to Proven Effectiveness because that shows off the embedded power. I also feel the small caps column to the left of Proven Effectiveness, whilst artistic actually detracts from the big point it make. (People read Top to Bottom, Left to Right so scanning back to the left to read about FREE.FR and Openmoko after reading Proven Eff. is actually hard on the brain and so it loses some impact. IMHO The 3 proven eff points should be under proven Eff and be next to Devices e) Move Building Blocks to the bottom or better remove it from this page - less is more. This is a high level page NOT a technical page. At this point no-one cares or understands Evans, Eina etc..... 3) http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=support&l=en a) Whilst I find the 2 column (IRC,Wiki), 1 column (Email), 2 column (Professional support) and interesting layout, I'm wondering if it is really better than 4 single rows: IRC, Wiki, Email, Professional. The current layout looks "artistic" but on the other hand it looks arbitrary (which is a bit of a negative aesthetically) 4) http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=docs&l=en "We have an overview document that describes how our libraries work, its' companion, user-contributed and auto-generateddocumentation. Overview Overview of how our libraries work Big Picture What it is and how Evas, Ecore, Edje, Elementary and others play together. " a) You list two documents twice. As a new user I find the docs hard enough without being confused by linking to the same documents twice under various names,. May I humbly suggest it should be a bulleted list eg: Here are some high-level overviews of EFL, for more information please see the wiki (http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki) * doc 1 * doc 2 * ... b) The "overview" document will put people off. It nearly put me off. is nothing like an overview. It's not bad for what it's talking about but apart from the first paragraph it is NOT an overview it drills straight down into deep technical things. 5) http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=download&l=en Nice and Neat. a) I find the documented distinction between Libraries and Applications is poor in the whole E* website. Once cannot tell if something is an app or a library. (I've started to fix that in the wiki) May I suggest adding a column to Snapshots after the item name and add the word "Library" or "Application" I know Enlightenment in the Snapshrts section is the only app but it's not obvious it is an App and Elementary is a library. b) I think En DR16 should be centred too. Just because it's old doesn't mean it can't be centred! ;-) c) where will you put (if anywhere) the links to the distribution packages as wyou have done for E16. d) A bigger thought/idea How about a single Table for EFL and one for Applications (you could leave source head out) EFL Name Stable Snapshot Source-Head Description ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eina 1.0.0 BETA2 x.y.z Eina-Head Core data structure library ...... Elementary -- 0.7.0.52995 Elemendary-Head Elementary Widget Set ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Applications Name Stable Snapshot Source-Head Description ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enlightenment (E16 1.0.6) 0.16.999.52995 E..-head EWM Ephoto -- etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On 19/12/2010, at 5:21 PM, Vincent Torri wrote: > > > On Sat, 18 Dec 2010, Jesse Charbneau wrote: > >> >> On Dec 17, 2010, at 6:08 AM, Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri wrote: >> >>> On Fri, Dec 17, 2010 at 5:51 AM, Vincent Torri <[email protected]> wrote: >>>> On Fri, 17 Dec 2010, Vincent Torri wrote: >>>>> On Fri, 17 Dec 2010, Jesse Charbneau wrote: >>>>>> Hello, >>>>>> I?ve been working off list with Gustavo, and we?d like to get some >>>>>> feedback on the design thats been worked out. >>>>>> >>>>>> http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=about&l=en >>>>>> http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=download&l=en >>>>>> http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=support&l=en >>>>>> http://e-www.thecharbneaus.com/p.php?p=docs&l=en >>>>> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lotusphere 2011 Register now for Lotusphere 2011 and learn how to connect the dots, take your collaborative environment to the next level, and enter the era of Social Business. http://p.sf.net/sfu/lotusphere-d2d _______________________________________________ enlightenment-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/enlightenment-devel
