From my perspective (as meta-efl maintainer) it's OK as long as you
aren't expecting to do zero-day updates for major versions (which
doesn't make much sense anyway).

I would prefer to stay closer with upstream versions, but especially
with upgrade from 1.7 to 1.8 there was quite a lot of work from
packaging side, so even when I started with some experiments in my spare
time around 1.8 beta I was confident enough to push it to
meta-efl/master only couple days ago with 1.8.5..

with 1.9 I don't expect so many changes in stuff released by you or
needed changes in apps/images we have, so I wanted to start with beta
again and hope to push finished version with 1.9.1 or something like
that, now I'll probably wait for final 1.9 because there isn't enough
time for me to test it and provide feedback, but on other hand I don't
mind if some fixes go only to .1 release (and I can patch it in meta-efl
temporary if there is some blocking issue)
