I downloaded the RH9 rpm on SF.net an installed it on my pc removing
the old e16.5-1 that I have.

1. Unfortunately I found out that it's terribly unstable: It hanged
my pc twice in the middle of work. I couldn't even press the
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace button to log out. I had to press the reboot
button as a last resort

2. It doesn't detect my GNOME and KDE menus fully unlike the MenuConvert_SystemToE program.

Did you try out /usr/share/enlightenment/scripts/e_gen_menu.new?

3. When I installed the same themes I used to install in my older
version, the virtual desktop box (the one on the bottom left)
disappeared, which normally do not happen in the previous version.

So conclusion, I uninstalled it and put back my old e0.16.5-1 packags by Guru Labs and everything got back to normal.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Did anybody tried it on RH9 before and
had these problems/ or did not have anything like it?

I think others have had trouble doing the e16.5 to e16.6 transition.
I suggest to
- exit X (or at least log out and use a VT console)
- install e16.6
- rename ~/.enlightenment to ~/.enlightenment.old
- start X (log in)

I'm using the SF rh9 binary rpm (+fnlib) on RH8.0 and RH9 systems
myself. No problems.
