Sorry the question sounds silly. I have been using Enlightenment for one year, it is my favorite. Only that I am in China, and the enlightenment.org website is unreachable from within the so called "China firewall". I believe enlightenment.org does not contain political stuff; I think it is excluded by mistake. Anyway I get no way to know about news and recent activities of enlightenment. Recently someone told me enlightenment has mailing lists on sourceforge, so I hurried subscribed it.Ok, well, I'm no programmer, but here is a copy/paste of the E-17 section on the news webpage.
I just wish to know how is the development going. Enlightenment has no newer version for quite some time, too slow comparing to other famouse opensouce projects. I heard E17 is dead, but I'm technique newbie, I read the "dead announcement" but I don't really get it. Is E17 dead because there is something even better than E17 will come out? When can I experience complex animiation on enlightenment, like MAC OS X users have?
I have been using some eppletes from FreeBSD port tree, the epplets are ages old, and the port maintainer said "please send your patches to the *port maintainer*". I acutally feel surprised on this, doesn't enlightenment team accept patches from outside like apache/linux do?
And is there any Chinese/Japanese people in the group? I never managed to run Enlightenment with Chinese window titles successfully, will the next version of E have better Chinese support?
Thank you.

*"Enlightenment DR17*
* Development Release 17 of the Enlightenment window manager represents an evolution into the next generation of desktop environments: the desktop shell <http://enlightenment.org/pages/faq.html>. DR17 will provide integration between files and your environment in a seamless manner while encompassing a graphically rich and flexible architecture. It will not compete with GNOME or KDE, but be a completely new way of visualizing your desktop, based around the EFL which was built from the ground up for this task. *
* Still in heavy development, several applications that will be part of the DR17 release and examples of what is possible are already available in CVS, such as Entice, Entrance, Evidence, Erss, and Eplayer. The desktop shell itself is only a basic framework and not yet ready for CVS, but will be emerging into CVS during the course of this year. As the foundation of DR17, the EFL is currently the first and foremost priority for development. *

So, no, it is NOT dead, and if you want more info, I'd be happy to give some to you.
There is at least one Japanese developper on the team, whose screen name is Rasterman.
He reads this list as well I believe.
So, patience my friend, E17 will come out, sooner or later. I have been waiting for almost 5 years for it to come out, and I'm happy enough seeing the progress made with the other applications like Evidence and Entrance.
Concerning the China firewall, can you access personal webpages? I'd be happy to copy some of the news from E on my website from time to time, if you and other chinese E-Users can access it.
Regards, John
