Emu was the first module that was converted to gadcon by someone other
than raster. I did it before it was possible to add other modules to
shelves, so I left it as both an old style gadman module and a new style
gadcon module. Once it was possible to add other modules to shelves, I
was quite pleased that the gadcon emu just worked. B-)

My intention is to get rid of the gadman version the next time I do
anything with emu.

It is intended by raster to have different types of shelf, the one we
have now is just the first type. Shelf's that take up the entire
background will allow gadcon modules to behave like their gadman
predecessors. Shelf's that live in window borders and shelf's that act
the same as engage (zoom on hover) are also planned. As far as I know
raster hasn't yet mentioned any details about how to develop any of
these other types. My guess is that since the shelf/gadcon stuff was
committed accidentally, other shelf types will have to wait until raster
sorts out the issues with this first type.

Emu is a language independent front end that really needs some good
examples of client back ends to show it off. Everything that there is
to know about emu is currently in the docs.
