Yes, they do, and as raster said, libtool doesn't give us much choice
in that regard.  That was his point. :)  It's up to packagers to Do
The Right Thing in those situations.

Personally I don't think having the .a or .la files there is a big
deal, but apparently raster does.  *shrug*
