Thanks for the quick response, and sorry for my incorrect terminology ("keybindings "...). ;)
Unfortunately, it seems that E17 does NOT use the system settings for keyboard layout (is that the correct term?). I have set the keyboard in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-keyboard-layout.conf like so: Section "InputClass" Identifier "keyboard-all" MatchIsKeyboard "on" MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*" Driver "evdev" # Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbLayout" "de" Option "XkbVariant" "" Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys" Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp" EndSection My understanding up to now is, that this should be a global (meaning system- wide) setting, and that this would give the same keyboard layout in all desktops and window managers. But E17 is different here. While it has the German special characters (umlauts ä, ö, ä, ß), it seems to remap other keys. Regarding the numberpad: My problem is NOT, that I can use the numberpad to navigate or move the cursor; instead, my problem is that I cannot use the cursor keys, because they are dead in E17, although they work just fine in KDE, Xfce and Fluxbox. But this is no showstopper, just a bit inconvenient. In contrast, the following issues are quite annoying. The following occurs with the language set to de_DE.UTF-8 using the language module. AltGr + q would usually give @, but when I edit an email in KMail I just get q. In the CLI, however, e. g. in Konsole, AltGr alone (not combined with any other key) behaves like <ENTER>, and produces a linebreak. So in e the German special characters are where they are supposed to be, and so are the usual characters and numbers including "#? etc. But AltGr-combined keys are not available in the way they should be. As all other environments I tried have the right keys in the expected places, even without explicit language settings, I suppose that something is wrong with my e installation. BTW, I am using r59882 from http://slacke17.sourceforge.net/ on Slackware64-13.37. I'd appreciate some advice what to look for or how to track this down, because, as I said, I am really impressed and like the look and feel of e so much that I would like to evaluate it further as my day-to-day DE, and eventually switch completely to it.
