Thanks, Carsten, this is solved! After re-installing my system I installed p61423 from trunk, and now everything is fine.
Sorry for bothering. Something was screwed in my system, and the problem was that it only showed up in e, while in Xfce, Fluxbox and KDE enverything looked ok. I feel a little unconfortable with the fact, that I wasn't able to track down the actual cause, but generally I am glad that it works now and that I can continue exploring this wonderful "desktop shell".
