are you sure all compiled fine, no errors?

anyway I guess you better use the svn client to download the source code.
in http://www.enlightenment.org/p.php?p=contribute&l=en you will find all you
need in order to successfully download and install e17, including a small 
script.

no need to create one, it is already provided by e17 and you should find it in
/usr/local/share/xsessions.

this is definitely bad.
e's binary should never be launched directly, always use enlightenment_start.
