have you uninstalled all libraries, both coming from the previous compilation
and from the binary package, before rebuilding everything?
it could be that there are multiple copies of the same library, so the app
could load the wrong one.
to avoid this I don't install anything in /usr/local but use /opt/e17 as
prefix, so removing old stuff is just a matter of "rm -rf". obviously I have
to add dirs in $PATH and $PKG_CONFIG_PATH.
