I fully agree. I've seen a number of lists changing their behavior due to some users complaining that they can't handle their mail client. These changes have always been harmful as clients just can't manage it properly as Michael explained already. Point is, that you always reply to the author, not the mailinglist. The mailinglist doesn't generate mail, one user does and he has to be replied to. The list get's it too if you want to share. That's what the default behavior is, and that is what hundreds of other mailinglists do, including such high-volume lists as LKML. If you feel you don't want to reply to an author but to the list, you don't reply at all, you generate a new mail/thread, and there is no confusion which button to use (in case there is: it's called "New" or "Compose"). And yes, I too occasionally miss the right button and only reply to the author, but resending doesn't hurt anyone and due to the extra work it won't happen as much in future. This new and wrong behavior leads people to forget how to do it right and they will do it wrong in future on other lists, because most lists do it right. Major downside: mails do get sent to the list in the To header and no longer to the author. I might not care about the list for several days, but I sure would care if somebody takes time to reply to one of my mails. Long story short: Please go back to the proper configuration and don't force people to unlearn proper mail handling. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BlackBerry® DevCon Americas, Oct. 18-20, San Francisco, CA The must-attend event for mobile developers.
