I'm decidedly NOT taking sides on the issue of whether or not Reply-To:
munging is a good or bad idea. That's as dangerous a debate as the fabled
vi/emacs holy wars {may the great vim prevail} and should be avoided if at
all possible. That is a decision for each list's owner/"admin team" to
make. And in any case I can deal with it regardless which way a mailing list
is configured... But I'm curious about the sweeping statements about "most
e-mail clients"... I choose to use alpine, and detest every gui e-mail client
I ever tried. But I don't know what is and isn't "possible" with "most" of
them.

That said, I always thought that it should be a simple matter to use an
email client's reply to all option and then selectively delete any
undesirable address from the To: & Cc: lists... But you seem to imply that
most email clients don't allow the To: & Cc: lists to be modified once a
reply is started? Is that really so? In which case I'm REAL glad I like
alpine...

Incidentally while I think that it should be easy to reply only to an
author of a post, I do think that the majority of replies do belong to be
sent to the list (which presumably is being monitored by anyone who cares
about replies to something they posted to it) And I think I found a
solution (in many cases) to the missing reply to list only button. But
again I might just be spoiled by alpine. I have yet to subscribe to a
mailing list that can't be found on gmane's NNTP mirror. And most of them
allow posts to the newsgroup {at least those from list "subscribers"} to be
forwarded to the list by gmane... Of course, since alpine is also my NNTP
client, I could just be spoiled by it's intelligent user interface, but I
suspect that most news readers, do know the difference between a reply and
a follow-up. The latter of course goes only to the list...
