I suspect because the actual text of that page was likely authored many
many years ago. There was a time when myself, and another FreeBSD'er or
two had more time (read "any time") to devote to maintaining
compatibility. Sadly, we live in a Linux world, and in many instances
the *BSDs are considered second class citizens.
