Hello Matthew and comunity

i have your lines in my firefox.cfg with "StartPage - Deutsch" in the place of Google and doesnt work; i try with another SE like, Wikipedia, Ebay and so one but dont change really the standard SE in FF

---

if i set following line in firefox.cfg :

> lockPref("browser.search.defaultenginename", "StartPage - Deutsch");

then i can see in my about:config:

> browser.search.defaultenginename;StartPage - Deutsch <--- (locked, kursiv)

but do nothing, standard SE is still google in about:preferences#search and by using of course too.

----

but if i put the same with "defaultPref" so:

> defaultPref("browser.search.defaultenginename", "StartPage - Deutsch");

then is in about:config:

> browser.search.defaultenginename;Google         <-- (user, bold)

and about:preferences#search is still always google :(

---

Wondering I can do it manual (of course) and run good in the 2 Cases, also this "lockPref" do nothing (because lock should avoid me some changes!)

like i say, i configure geoSpecificDefaults to false and stay so in about:config always

---

Thanks!

Carlos

Carlos,

Firefox has "geo specific defaults" for the search engines that use different lists depending on which country the browser detects it is in. These defaults will override your setting, so you have to turn the feature off.

These are the autoconfig lines I had to use to get it to work:

    defaultPref("browser.search.de
    <http://browser.search.de>faultenginename", "Google");
    defaultPref("browser.search.ge
    <http://browser.search.ge>oSpecificDefaults", false);
