Which makes me curious, what is OE doing in the same circumstances?

I'm breathing a little easier now because I just found a workaround that
works for me: command-option-delete. So I guess this "problem" just morphed
into a feature request: the ability to set auto-select behaviour. Ideally I
envision this type of settings, preferably for each mailbox/folder:

__ Next by sort (chronological) -->
          _Read  _Unread  _Flagged  _Category (pulldown)  _None

__Next in list-->
          _Read  _Unread  _Flagged  _Category (pulldown)  _None


Dream a little dream indeed...    =8^]
