To: Paul and the MBU team

[I previously wrote that Entourage has a small bug in importing contact info
from Now Contact. It imports "title" info into the "job title" field instead
of the "suffix" field. This minor annoyance was fixed by Paul's
AppleScript.]

But now I have discovered a corollary "issue" to this import problem: when
syncing with the Palm, info from the "Job Title" field is sent to the Palm's
"Title" field. Therefore, a person who has the degree "DDS" in the suffix
field and the job title field is blank will have a Palm "Title" field which
is either blank or (using Paul's script to display categories) will display
the category name(s).

This is not so much a bug per se as it is a conceptual issue regarding the
way the fields "Suffix" and "Job Title" are used. I believe that
professional titles should go into the "suffix" field, because that will
allow the proper display in the summary view of a name. For example, "John
Smith, Jr., Esq." Placing the professional title into the job title field
leaves the name as "John Smith, Jr." Don't forget that John Smith, Jr., Esq.
could have the job title "Director of Patent Litigation". But shouldn't the
professional title then be sent to Palm's "Title" field as well?

I'm sure that I can make a temporary workaround by adapting one of Paul's
scripts to duplicate the info to get the Palm to display the desired info in
some field, but it would sure be nice to have consistency. Either Paul's
script "Fix Suffix Now E" should not be used (and I think it is the way to
go) and your Palm sync is OK, or both the mods introduced by Paul's script
should be used and the Palm Sync should be changed.

Does anyone know how Palm Desktop handles syncing professional titles with
the Palm?
