Oddly enough, I was just looking at a similar problem when this arrived. We
briefly used the IMAP mail services of WebStar this spring, before moving to
EIMS (from Qualcomm/Eudora). With WebStar, Outlook Express could create
subfolders inside mailboxes. With EIMS, they appear to create allright, but
after a folder refresh they are all at the main level. For instance, if I
created something called "Subfolder" inside "MainFolder" of the account, on
refresh it would show up as "MainFolder/Subfolder". I believe this is
caused by Outlook assuming that the server's hierarchy character is always
going to be "/" and using that in the creation name, when EIMS uses ":".
When an IMAP client issues a LIST command, one of the things it gets back is
the hierarchy separator character, and my guess is the OE, (and now
Entourage) is ignoring this. If I create the subfolders and submailboxes in
Eudora, and then look at them in OE or Entourage, they appear to show
properly.

It may be that your problem is something similar in reverse. Just for fun,
try downloading Eudora (www.eudora.com) or Mulberry (www.cyrusoft.com), and
set them up to access the account. If the folder and submailboxes show up
fine there, but not in Entourage, it may be something like this. Does your
iMail documentation indicate what it uses for the "hierarchy separation
character"? I was going to spend a few minutes tonight logging the TCP/IP
session between Entourage/OE and EIMS, to see what each is doing during
mailbox/folder creation, and I'd be glad to let you know what happens if you
are interested.
