The primary reason we don’t is because Apple does not support references within a file in Sherlock. They promised to do the support in a future revesion, but that promise was a year and a half ago at WWDC and still no sign of it.

Yes, I expected that the UI could not be used - we do want to be able to
search from within Entourage, after all. To bad the UI does not allow a plug
in specific reference to a location within a file, as that would allow
meaningful indexing of library, archive, and similar aggregate type files.
