Thanks for the info.
It would appear that this is indeed a bug, since the calendar window behaves
differently according to whether it is independent (floating window), or
part of the 3 pane view.
In floating mode, it works perfectly - click on any day in any month and you
retain your view mode.
In 3 pane mode you have to do the click-and-drag thing, and the number of
days you'll see depends on the number you dragged: if you click and drag two
weeks you'll get a grid view for instance.
Personally I'd like to see this bug squashed, because I only use one
floating window full-screen on my second screen: the address book. All the
rest are in 2 or 3 pane mode on my main monitor, including the calendar.
