I have been wondering lately how many people use an extension or something
to either automatically hide inactive applications or provided a keyboard
equivalent to the hide others command in the finder menu. Option-switch
will hide only the application you have just switched from of course, but I
don't find that very useful.
I was for a split second glad to see the command-H incorporated as a system
wide shortcut in OS X, but remain fascinated that Apple assigned it to hide
the current application. The psychology of this seems backwards - it seems
like such an negative impulse, "I don't want to see this application
now...it doesn't matter what app comes up next, but get rid of this one."
Don't most people think about what they *do* want to see now? What I dont
want to see is defined by what I do want to see, "I want to focus on this
app for a while, so get rid of others."
I find command-H a far more useful shortcut for finding highlighted text and
will regret loosing it in OS X. And I want a shortcut for hiding others. I
hate having to mouse this all the time.
