Over the last couple of week I've had some issues crop up with Entourage's
interface. For one, the cursor often "sticks", by that I mean that if mail
comes in while I'm clicking on a note in the preview list window (top right
of the 3-pane browser) during the check the cursor turns into a watch, ok,
but it doesn't change back until I move it out of the pane into the message
(or anywhere else for that matter) even after mail download is completed.
Just as often I'll be moving the cursor from a message where it is an I beam
to the preview list and it will stay an I beam. I also can no longer adjust
the width of the columns in the preview list *except* between the address
and message subject fields. I get no "double bar" cursor between any of the
fields to the right of this, and thus cannot change the column size. Just as
often, in the same window, when passing over column titles and the yellow
tooltips pop up, they will often remain on the screen for a few seconds even
after moving the cursor away. None of these things seem to affect the
stability of the app in any way (except I can't resize most columns) but
they are annoying. Along with this I've started having many of the delay
problems with typing that others have noted, in fact the whole app is
feeling more sluggish. I've trimmed the mail database down to 4000 messages
from a top of 10,000 and done both types of rebuilds, this helped the speed
somewhat but still the interface anomalies and occasional slow typing have
persisted.
