Dear List:
Last night I wrote Paul B. about scripts, and thought I would post his
reply, along with a couple of other questions. I wanted to know how to save
and use the scripts posted on the list
>>> when y'all put the scripts into the messages, how does

>>Web site? Aren't you talking about email here? You can copy and paste script
texts into a window in Script Editor, which is an application you find in
[Applications, if OS 9.1] --> Apple Extras-->AppleScript folder.
Double-click Script Editor to open. Or do it in Smile, which is a 3rd-party
free editor, better. Click the Check Syntax button, then Save (File menu)
as a Compiled Script (the default in the Save dialog) straight into the
Entourage Script Menu Items folder if you wish (navigate there in the
dialog). Most of us send scripts in HTML, but if you copy a plain text one
it will have errors when you check syntax because long lines have been split
and hardwrapped: fix it by joining the long lines up. But, as I say, most of
us send scripts to this list in HTML to avoid this problem completely.
--------------------------------
Today:
I just looked and am running, still, OS 8.6, and don't have the Apple Script
folder in the Applications folder, so if I find and download Smile, will it
work with OS 8.6? I just haven't felt the need to go to 9.0, especially
since X is coming. Like some others of you have said, until the bugs are
out of X, I will just keep chugging along with what I have.
When I do get Smile, do I put it in the Applications folder, or where? I
guess it will say.
