I've used a variety of applications and I'm continually playing with new
ones.
At the moment, I'm using the Radialogic driver-based encryption.
But I'm mad at Radialogic . They got bought by Apple before they answered a
question of mine. And now I fear that my issue will never be addressed.
Although I'm hoping that Firewire 2.8 might...

I saw no degradation in performance between non-encrypted, lightly
encrypted, and heavily encrypted.
Most recently, this was on both a 5400 RPM ATA/66 Maxtor mounted in an
external Firewire enclosure and a 7200 RPM ATA/66 Maxtor mounted internally.
And I did actually test the various configurations' performances before
leaving them heavily encrypted. ;-)
But with Radialogic being in something of an odd state...I'm not
recommending their software (although I believe Radialogic actually wrote
large parts of Apple's drivers).
