Yes. You can get rid of all your newsgroup messages by control-clicking each
news server and select "Empty Cache". Then I'd suggest going into
Accounts-->News and setting the download default for each server's
newsgroups to 50 or less, not 300.

More to your point, you can add a criterion for your message custom views
(if ALL criteria are met)  that says <Specific header> <Newsgroups> <Does
not exist>

and that will all exclude all your news messages.
