You need to have the Japanese Language Kit installed (available for free on OS 9 installers) and you have to register Entourage as a Japanese application (using the "language register" app). After doing this and launching Entourage, you should see checkboxes for adding the lucky days in the Calendar preference panels. Note that you get the English transliterations, not the Japanese characters.

I’m trying to understand how to store Japanese characters in the contact fields. I recall Dan Crevier talking about the “Is Japanese Contact” field, but I’m not sure how this works. In short, what do I need to do in order to get the most out of Entourage’s ability to store and display Japanese names, addresses, and other contact information? Do I need to register Entourage as a Japanese application in order to get to any fields that would otherwise be hidden?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer,

If you have the Japanese Language Kit installed, you can just enter Japanese in any field, and it should just work.  In the Address Book tab of preferences, if you check the “Enable Japanese Contact” checkbox, each contact will let have a checkbox that lets you say whether or not it’s a Japanese contact.  Japanese contacts have additional fields like furigana fields, and a hagaki tab for keeping track of postcards.  Registering the app will get you even more stuff, like the ability to add the lucky days to the calendar.
