Okay, so by now all those of us who are exasperated by this problem know the
workaround. Question is: why do we need a workaround?
I understand that the Palm Datebook itself doesn't actually think in terms
of multiple day events but rather repeating untimed events. That much I get.
But Palm Desktop (on the Mac at least) allows you to create event banners
spanning several days which, when syncing to the Palm, convert intelligently
to repeating day events, and which look to all intents and purposes like
banners in the Datebook month view.
Now Entourage allows you to also create multiple day event banners, so why
is it unreasonable to expect it too will convert those to the Palm via
HotSync as repeating day events? My month view in Entourage at present looks
ugly as heck as I have large numbers of repeating events each month and each
day entry has its own 'repeating' icon and a caption. And as a result they
don't even keep horizontal visual continuity like a banner would because
they are seen as single day events, so another repeating day event starting
with the letter 'A' will push a longer event beginning with 'S' down a peg.
Try it. You'll see what I mean.
I can live with it, but I don't much like it. And what bothers me the most
is that something like this wasn't really noticed in the products Beta
testing. I mean, it promises syncing with Palm (and Palm alone, not like
it's one among many different OS's to support) but then fails to offer the
basic intelligent calendar functionality of the existing Palm Desktop app.
Please, anybody at Microsoft, answer the original question. Is this going to
be fixed soon or are we just going to be told to use a workaround which we
are already doing?
