Quick update...
After downgrading to QT4.2 and trashing my Preferences, the crashing
stopped. Trashing MS prefs wasn't enough. I had to delete the whole
Preferences folder - so I probably had one or more corrupted files lurking
there (possibly caused during the QT installation?).
I'll let you know if I pinpoint the cause of the problem. For now I'm just
happy to have a stable system.
