I've been testing the "Japanese contact format" on a few contacts, and I'm
very impressed. Kudos! There only seemed to be one shortcoming, which I
would love to see addressed in an upcoming release.
I would prefer to use the "Last Name" and "First Name" fields for roman
characters, and instead use two (currently non-existent) fields for the
kanji. I understand that this might mean having three pairs of fields for
first/last name information (roman, kanji, furigana), but this would make it
easier to integrate Japanese contacts along with other non-Japanese
contacts. For example, I would be able to type the first few (roman) letters
of the last name in the Address Book listing to highlight the Japanese
contact I'm looking for. This won't work if I enter kanji characters into
the first and last name fields.
Another side effect of using the existing "Last Name" and "First Name"
fields for kanji characters is that the name of the contact is listed as "??
??" in the title of the open contact window.
Of course, it's very possible that I'm simply missing an easy way to address
this. If not, hopefully my suggestion will be considered for the next
(non-SR) release.
Thanks for listening,
Justin
