It's one of the best legacies of MacOS. One of my great frustrations with
Windows initially was that each software developer seemed to have their own
keyboard shortcut scheme. (The situation has improved as Win has gotten
better at aping Mac innovation.) Mac has always used a standardized system.
Other favorites are Cmd-p (print), cmd-s (save), cmd-c (copy), cmd-v
(paste), cmd-x (cut) and many more... Universal across almost all Mac
software applications.
