Jim,
You should go to the Internet Control Panel --> Advanced --> Helpers and
check that it's using your actual FTP program. Usually it seems to be set
for Network Browser, don't ask me why, and needs to be reset to Interarchy,
Fetch, or whatever you use. Then it should open that FTP program when you
click an ftp URL, and using "anonymous" as you did should work in most
cases.
