Thanks to everyone who stepped up to the plate with suggestions and
references for this issue. In summary, it seems there are tow 'suggested
methods' how to implement this by adding custom headers.
I'll play around with these a bit (I certainly do not see any issue of
privacy issues with this, considering that I'm initiating a request for a
receipt, and that OE, apparently, properly asks for permission before
sending it.
What I would like to see, as a feature suggestion, would be for
E'age/Outlook to provide some integrated support for this:
* Allow the user in the account configuration settings to select if they
want 'return-receipt' with this account. Request which method the user
prefers (or even implement both - is that possible?)
* Add a preference for 'always request return receipt' under a default
setting under 'sending mail'.
* Display the 'return receipt' checkbox during message composition (thus
allowing a user to check it off/on).
* Notify user if it is okay to send a return-receipt.
* Provide a preference setting that also allows this to be automated, or
transparent.
* Display a checkbox when reading a message, to allow the user to know that
a return receipt had been requested.
Any other thing I might have missed?
Is this something that is possible for a future version?
