I assume you know you can unsubscribe the same way you subscribed: click on
the news server (in the Folder Pane) to which the news group belongs, then
in the full list of news groups, click once on a subscribed news group (in
bold) and click the Unsubscribe button at the top. That removes that
particular news group from the Folder List, while leaving the others
standing. But it wont remove its already-downloaded messages from the cache.
They're already local, although you can no longer access them. I suppose
they won't turn up in an Advanced Find since their "folder" no longer
exists. If that's all you're concerned with, you're now OK. If you want to
get rid of them from the cache, you'd have to Empty Cache as I described
previously, and then re-download back messages on subscribed newsgroups if
you need them.. 

It's very peculiar that the control-click technique for Empty cache doesn't
appear to be documented anywhere. You just have to know about it somehow.
