Thanks for all the replies.
I set up the file sharing on the IMAC with the crossover cables so that I
could copy files directly to the G4, in the OS9 environment.
I did manage to move the files successfully. However during the process
which should have taken 20-30 minutes I had frequent crashes that required
me to restart several times and redo the file transfers. It seems the IMAC
would all of a sudden freeze when the data got over the 100 MB range, which
would then freeze OS9 on the G4.
I then decided to break the files down to smaller chunks, but still had to
restart because of numerous freezes.
It kind of rained on my parade a bit ... Getting a new computer and all ( a
G4 nonetheless) and then having to deal with crashes the same day! But after
exploring the world of the OSx10 over the last few days I've got my
excitement back again ... It is awesome, and much more stable than any
previous version I've used.
Any one have any ideas as to why those crashes would happen? The computer
techie at apple said when doing transfers you should break up files in
smaller chunks.
Even doing this, didn't seem to make it go that much smoother. On a side
note I had only about 300 MB of free hard drive space on my IMAC when I did
the data transfers. I don't know if that would have been a factor or not.
If anyone knows if there's something I can do to make it go smoother in the
future, I'd appreciate hearing your suggestions.
Thanks again,
Jeff
