[ER 2001, 9.2, G4 PM]

I use the Mailing List Manager feature of the Tools menu in ER quite
frequently as I am subscribed to many discussion lists and newsletters.
Normally to add a list I simply open a message from the list, click Tools,
Mailing List Manager and "+ New" and the list address is prepopulated into
the list address window from the message.

I've noticed that this doesn't work for some lists. There are two types of
settings for lists:

1. The To: header is populated with the list's address, like it does with
this ER list

2. The To: header is populated with a merge field of the recipient's
address

I've noticed that when I try to add a list to the Mailing List Manager there
are times when it populates my own email address as being the list's
address. One time I was adding lists really fast with it and didn't notice
this until a few days later when I found a bunch of email that had been sent
to me but filtered into a list folder because my email address was listed as
the list's address in the Mailing List Manager. <LOL>

I guess my questions are about the operation of the Mailing List Manager
tool.

1. Does the MLM tool filter specifically and solely based on what it sees
in the To: header of an incoming email message when it decides what to do
with the message? If so, then does this mean that the MLM tool is
essentially useless for lists that are set to put the recipient's email
address in the To: field, and that it only works for lists that populate the
To: field with the list address?

2. If this is the case, then what options do we have to manage mail from
lists that list the recipient in the To: field? I suppose one could just
set up a filter for those lists, but it sure would be nice to be able to use
the MLM feature for all lists.

3. When processing incoming mail, it is my understanding that ER processes
mail through the filter list in a top to bottom fashion, but does ER process
mail through the filters list first or the Mailing List Manager first?

Sorry for the thoroughness of these questions, but I'm always learning and
always seeking solutions. ER is a great product but this has perplexed me
for a few days now.

Thx in advance for any help from the ER programmers on this list or other
list members who've run across this before.
