You're not being perfectly clear about a few things here, Zachary. From the sound of "Messages" file, you must be using Entourage 2001, yes? In that case, what exactly do you mean by "user name and password"? You can't be referring to an Entourage account, because you haven't been able to get into Entourage. Are you in OS 9 with Multiple Users, or are you using Entourage 2001 in Classic booted from OS X? If OS 9 with Multiple Users, are you the owner, or a subsidiary user? The answer to that could matter: if you're in Multiple Users, then the "right place" for the owner's Microsoft User Data folder is in Documents folder on the boot disk, but the "right place" for other users is in the Documents folder of your user folder in Users. Changing the name of the OS User without changing the name of the Entourage identity corresponding to it might create problems - I've never tried it. But I don't think this is the problem. A strong possibility is that there is a corrupt message on the server which is trying to download as your Send & Receive Schedule runs on startup. I would suggest you physically disconnect your computer from its internet connection, and/or change any Internet settings which connects you to the internet as you launch Entourage. If necessary, change your TCP/IP settings so that you get a connection error when you launch Entourage. that will give you chance to DISABLE THE SEND & RECEIVE ALL SCHEDULE. Then go to your account in Tools/Accounts,and turn on Allow Online Access in the Options page of the account. Now you'll see a server icon for that account in your Folder List. Click on it. You'll see all the messages on your server. To confirm which is the corrupt one, turn Preview Pane ON (View menu). Add Received column if it's not there (View / Columns). Click on it to sort by time received. The oldest message that has not been downloaded (has a truncated, jagged icon in the Online status column at the left : if you leave messages on the server, you'll see older ones with full envelope icon, if not, it should be the oldest message listed) should be the corrupt one. Click on it. If you crash, that's the one. Re-launch Entourage and go back there - click again on the server icon. This time, turn preview Pane OFF in View menu or cmd-¥. Click on the corrupt message - you won't crash. If it looks important, drag it to your desktop - nothing will crash. If it looks like spam, don't bother. Now delete it (when selected, click Trash icon in toolbar or press delete key. You should be fine. You can check by turning Preview Pane on and click on another message, or just double-clicking another. You should be able to read it without crashing. Turn your Send & Receive All schedule back on, and run it (cmd-M in Entourage 2001, cmd-K in Entourage X). Everything should be OK now. If you saved the corrupt message to your desktop, you can open it in a text editor like BBEdit, Tex-Edit Plus or Word. You won't crash. You'll see most of the message mixed up with some nonsense, but should be able to read most of it. If you don't find any corrupt message: You may have disk corruption. First, remove the Preferences file from your Identity folder in your MUD folder, give Entourage a huge amount of memory, and choose Advanced Rebuild after starting Entourage with option key down. That should fix it. if it won't rebuild, remove that Prefs file again, and also the Entourage Preferences file in (OS 9) System Folder/Preferences/Microsoft/ and rebuild again. It's possible that doing that last step will just make a new blank "Main Identity" . If so go to File/Switch identities, select your real identity in the list that comes up, and then hold down option key as you click OK , and rebuild. (If this doesn't work, remove both Prefs files again and also the PPC Registration database in Preferences folder. Then rebuild. But I don't think that's the problem here.) Just in case, if all that doesn't work: If you are in OS 9, Multiple Users, go into your own Microsoft User data folder/Office 2001 Identities in Users, and change the name on your main Identity there to correspond with your OS identity. The worst that can happen is that Entourage would make a blank new "Main Identity" on startup, Switch identities and rebuild your real identity. But I don't think this is the issue. -- Paul Berkowitz -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
