It seems like most of my problems with IMAP have gone away after turning off Live Sync. I haven't noticed any lost functionality, and the speed is as good as any other app on Mac OS X. Apple's Mail application is definitely faster at retrieving message headers, but now that all my mailboxes are up-to-date that shouldn't be a big problem. I must say that the user interface of Entourage v.X is quite stunning!
