Your database is FAR too big. 2 GB is the limit for a file. you have 1.9 GB Messages file and .9 GB Database in 2001. In X, there's only one database file that combines both - do the arithmetic: 2.8 GB. It's impossible.
Go back to 2001, and put older messages into their own folders: you can double or better triple every folder you have : number them 1, 2, 3 or with dates. Drag all the older ones to the desktop, say nos. 1 and 2. make one or two new identities via the Switch Identity menu item. Go onto your new Extra Identity 1 and drag in all the folders no. 1. If you make a second, go there and drag in all the folders 2. Go back to your main identity and DELETE all the folders numbers 1 (and 2). Give Entourage 2001 a LOT of memory (as much as you can) and rebuild your Main identity here in 2001 - maybe even an Advanced would be a good idea, with all it's been through. You should probably do a typical rebuild for the new identity/ies too. (Quit while in the relevant identity, then restart Entourage with option key down.) OK now you have 2 or 3 smaller, clean identities. Go to Entourage X, delete the identity you can't open. Throw it away. Make a new empty one. Import your main identity from 2001 (when the Import dialogs ask you to "find Office 2001 Identities folder", go one level deeper in and chose your main Identity folder). Then Switch identities (here it's in the Entourage menu) and make one or two new identities. From each one. import one of the subsidiary identities from 2001. You shouldn't have to rebuild any of them here in X. (But you never know.) That should do it. if you have any trouble rebuilding the 2001 identities, trash the preference file you'll find it its Identity folder before you try rebuilding again. -- Paul Berkowitz > From: Thomas Chaffee <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: "Entourage:mac Talk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Tue, 01 Jan 2002 01:53:42 -0600 > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Entourage X - 40 Error > > Hello All. > > I have done my absolute best here, and I have seen others with the same > problem on some boards, yet have never found a resolution - so, any thoughts > here are greatly appreciated. > > I have a repeatable issue on two different Macs a 733 Desktop and a Titanium > 500 running 10.1.1 - though it also happened under 10.1. > > After I import Entourage 2001 into Entourage X, I can use the app for a bit > with no problem.
