I may adapt the script for X, but there's really no need. as you speculated, the Address Book is the same in Word as in Entourage. by using the Contacts Toolbar (View menu --> Toolbars) in Word (or the Address Book itself in Tools menu, but it's more cumbersome), you can do pretty well everything the script did. I guess you type your own "Dear" or other salutation, but that actually gives you more choices.
