I did some experimentation and this is what I have found, and if you can
follow this you should be able to reproduce it.

Create a new message in Entourage with your default signature and be sure
that the body of your message begins on the first line.  Then, change the
signature, and everything should be OK.

Now, create a new message,, again with your default signature, but this
time, type nothing in the first line and change your cursor position to the
second line.  Type a few characters and then change the signature.  Say
goodbye to whatever you typed because it will vanish.

I thought for a moment that perhaps when I am typing in the second line,
that I am really typing in the first line of the signature, but I found that
to not be the case on closer examination/

Now, I don't know if what I am able to reproduce is conclusive, but I hope
it helps someone who may be looking at this discussion.
