I guess I'll add my view as well.

I have many years' experience with both Macs and PCs. I have grown to really
like my "wheel mouse" on the PC, and miss it greatly when using my Mac.

Recently I took the plunge, and added a Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse
Explorer to my Mac. What a great addition! Even under OS X, I get much
functionality from the wheel and the right button. Eventually, Microsoft
will probably release an OS X native version of the driver. Until then, you
can plug the transmitter into a USB port, and the thing just works. If you
aren't satisfied with the features provided by OS X mouse driver, I highly
recommend USB Overdrive (http://www.usboverdrive.com/ ). It's still in beta,
but it's been stable for me, and it allows me to use all the buttons on the
IntelliMouse, and tailor its behavior for each application if I want.

Oh, I should mention that I'm using my IntelliMouse on my TiBook.

I have used PowerBooks of one sort or another since the very first Mac
Portable appeared on the scene. When Apple started including a trackpad, I
adapted and never bothered adding a mouse. I have used the PowerBook as my
"desktop" computer and have used it away from my desk. In all these years, I
saw many people who insisted on not using the trackpad, claiming they just
*had to have* a mouse. I shrugged, feeling quite at home without a mouse.

Well, now that I have the Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, my views have
changed! I can (and do) still use the trackpad at times. But this wireless
mouse is just *so* convenient that I find myself sticking it in my jacket
pocket when I take my TiBook away from the office. Yes, it's an added thing
to carry. But I find that the difference the wheel and the right button make
are ample compensation for the slight inconvenience of carrying the mouse
with me.

YMMV, but I really, really prefer a two-button (at least!) mouse to a
single-button mouse or trackpad.

Enjoy!
